The Breast     1993

Site Specific Installation, MacLaren Art Centre, Barrie, ON

The Breast is an iconic sculpture symbolizing nurture through its relationship to female and by extension to mother. The Breast silently resided on the grounds of the MacLaren Art Centre from 1993 - 2000, renewed each spring with the splendor of the scilla announcing the end of the long winter. Poetic words, imbedded in the female psyche of women, are inscribed in the interior of The Breast.
Throughout these years of installation, The Breast stood the test of time, shedding its outer skin of initial presumed controversy to reveal the strength of the symbolic intent embodied within it.
