Cathedral 2012
Cathedral is a series of photographs engaging the use of mise-en-scène as a visual tool. The presence of the woman in the silver lamé dress within the semi-illuminated space is enigmatic and mystical.
This older woman simultaneously belongs to and is separated from her space - a condition of her life - begun in the rural roots of New Brunswick yet ultimately ending in an urban existence.
The historical barn, as necessary stage, evokes a cathedral through the stunning architecture and accidents of light. The arrangement of strongly contrasting tones brings a classical element to this work with the rich chiaroscuro effect. Through order, harmony, and subtle movement within the frame, a story unfolds.
